Basic Approach and Policy

Aiming to help establish a sustainable society, the Canon Marketing Japan Group (hereinafter the "Canon MJ Group") has formulated Canon MJ Group Environmental Vision 2050 and the interim Canon MJ Group 2030 Medium-Term Environmental Targets. Based on this vision and these targets, we aim to reduce CO2 emissions not only internally but also from our entire value chain. We are also working to help reduce CO2 emissions through the provision of products and services.

Initiatives for TCFD Recommendations

At the Canon Marketing Japan (hereafter, the "Canon MJ"), we endorsed the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and are working on related initiatives.

Supervisory System of the Board of Directors

The Canon MJ Group has a system in place under which the Board of Directors supervises matters to be discussed and resolved by the Sustainability Promotion Committee, as they are important matters that relate to the core aspects of management and pertain to the entire organization. The Board of Directors receives reports on the risks and opportunities associated with climate change from the Sustainability Promotion Committee at least once a year and monitors and supervises the progress of measures related to such risks and opportunities. In 2025, the report regarding TCFD was submitted to the Board of Directors.

Sustainability Promotion Committee

Matters concerning climate change are discussed by the Sustainability Promotion Committee. The president & representative director, who is the chairperson of the committee, assumes overall responsibility for all sustainability-related matters, including climate change. The committee assesses the impact of climate change on our business at least once a year and holds discussions concerning our approach to minimizing the identified risks and seizing opportunities.

Strategy

At the Canon MJ Group, we conduct scenario analyses to identify the various risks and opportunities posed by climate change to our business. We use the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Changeʼs Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) scenarios of 1.5°C (RCP 1.9) and 4°C (RCP 8.5) as well as the International Energy Agencyʼs Sustainable Development Scenario (IEA-SDS) for our scenario analyses. We analyze risks and opportunities that are shared throughout the Group, as well as those related to the Groupʼs key businesses that have a significant impact on climate change, and identify when these risks and opportunities are likely to occur over the short, medium, and long term. The content of this analysis is reviewed annually and updated as necessary.

Risk Management

The Sustainability Promotion Division, which oversees matters related to climate change, takes the lead in identifying the risks and opportunities of climate change and assesses the situation in cooperation with the relevant internal divisions of Group companies. The Sustainability Promotion Division also examines responses and countermeasures for each risk and opportunity, which are reported and proposed for deliberation to the Sustainability Promotion Committee. The division also reports and makes recommendations on certain climate change-related impacts and matters to risk management divisions throughout the Company, thereby assuming the role of integrating the impacts of climate change into our Companywide risk management.

Metrics and Targets

In 2022, the Canon MJ Group set the Canon MJ Group Environmental Vision 2050 and the Canon MJ Group 2030 Medium-Term Environmental Targets, the interim targets of this vision*1 . We are aiming to achieve the metric of “Realization of carbon neutrality” under the Canon MJ 2030 Medium-Term Environmental Targets, in line with the SBTi*2 standards. In January 2024, we updated this metric to “Reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by 2030 (from 2022 levels)” and added “Reduce Scope 3 (Category 1, 11) emissions by 25% by 2030 (from 2022 levels)”.
The CO2 emission results for 2024 are shown in the table on the right. Data for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions received third-party assurance.

Initiatives

Contributing to customers’ CO₂ reduction through our business

  • Launched “CO₂ Emissions Calculation Support Service” to support decarbonization management
In June 2025, Canon System & Support launched the “CO2 Emissions Calculation Support Service” to sup port the calculation and visualization of CO2 emissions, which serve as the foundation for decarbonization management initiatives by small and medium-sized enterprises. https://canon.jp/biz/solution/smb/makasete-it/bx-support/datsutanso/co2 (in Japanese)
  • Implemented a service that provides carbon-neutral electricity
The “Nishi-Tokyo Data Center”, owned and operated by Canon ITS, offers services that provide environmental value, such as reducing CO2 emissions by utilizing renewable energy. This service enables customers to substantially reduce the CO2 emissions from their electricity usage by purchasing Non-Fossil Certificates from Canon ITS.

Initiatives to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions

  • Energy-saving initiatives at data centers and offices
Buildings No.1 and No.2 of the “Nishi-Tokyo Data Center”, owned and operated by Canon ITS, are operated under rigorous safety management while maintaining high efficiency and low energy consumption. As a result, the No.1 building was recognized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s “Bureau of Environment as an Outstanding Specified Anti-Global Warming Facility” (near top-level business facility) in 2021, followed by the No.2 building in 2023 as facilities with exceptionally strong frameworks for promoting climate change measures. Furthermore, in 2025, both the No.1 and No.2 buildings were recognized as “Outstanding Specified Anti-Global Warming Facilities” (top level business facilities), a higher-level certification. We contribute to our customers’ energy-saving efforts by enabling them to migrate their on-premises servers to cloud services and data centers provided by us. In addition, at Canon MJ Group sites across Japan, we continuously promote energy-saving initiatives through improvements to offices and working styles, including energy conservation measures for lighting and air-conditioning systems, the installation of energy-efficient equipment such as LED lighting, the introduction of car-sharing programs for company vehicles, and the observance of no overtime days.

  • Reducing environmental impact through expanded use of renewable energy
We achieved 100% use of renewable energy at Canon MJ’s Headquarters, four business sites including company-owned office buildings (CANON S TOWER, Canon Konan Building, Makuhari office, and Kumamoto Building), and the “Nago Data Center” operated by Qualysite Technologies through utilization of the FIT Non-Fossil Certificate with tracking corresponding to electricity consumption, on-site PPA, and other measures. (Achieved in April 2022 at Canon MJ’s Headquarters and four business sites, including company owned office buildings, and in June 2023 at the “Nago Data Center”). Furthermore, in October 2025, we installed a solar power generation system at Building No. 2 of the “Nishi Tokyo Data Center” and began verifying the amount of electricity generated. We aim to further reduce our environmental impact through the use of renewable energy.

Initiatives to reduce Scope 3 emissions

  • Supporting the reduction of suppliers’ CO2 emissions
At the Canon MJ Group, we address the impact of climate change across the entire lifecycle ̶ not only within our own operations, but also in the manufacturing of raw materials and components, transportation to retailers and other partners, customer use, and disposal and recycling ̶ and work to reduce CO2 emissions throughout the supply chain. As one of our Scope 3 emissions reduction initiatives, we have conducted ongoing questionnaires of major suppliers since 2024 regarding their efforts to reduce CO2 emissions. Furthermore, beginning in 2026, we started providing CO2 emissions calculation support to suppliers based on the status of their emissions calculation initiatives identified through these questionnaires. We will continue to engage with suppliers with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions throughout the supply chain.
  • Reducing CO2 emissions by improving logistics
Canon MJ used the “2024 problem” in logistics as an opportunity to promote the improvement in the logistics of consumer products such as cameras, lenses, and printers. Through repeated discussions with stakeholders, we reviewed transportation loading efficiency, delivery methods, and product return operations, which contributed to the improvement of the working environment not only for our own company, but also for logistics companies. In 2024, we reduced the number of vehicles used for transportation and deliveries between our warehouses and business partner warehouses by approximately 400, and further 45 vehicles in 2025. As a result, we reduced CO2 emissions related to logistics. Going forward, we will continue to make further improvements to our logistics operations by rolling out these improvements into Group companies.
