Scope 1: Direct emissions (town gas, LPG, diesel oil, kerosene, gasoline, non-energy-related GHG, etc.) Scope 1 in domestic consolidated subsidiaries (TCS, QB5, Primagest, dcWORKS and Leap) and in overseas consolidated subsidiaries is additionally recorded in the results in 2022 and after.
  • *
Scope 2: Intermediate emissions (electricity, steam, etc.) Calculation of location standards started in 2023. The method of calculation was changed in 2024 based on the subject and scope of reporting of a data center’s energy consumption defined by the Act on Rationalization of Energy Use and Shift to Non-fossil Energy and the Act on Promotion of Global Warming Countermeasures. We decided to include the amount of consumption, excluding power consumption, by the housing service (excluding rack jobbing) tenant companies in Scope 2, and the amount of power consumption by the housing service tenant companies in Scope 3 Cat.13. For results starting from 2022, those after the change are written. Results determined by the previous calculation method are parenthesized.

GHG Emissions at Domestic Business Sites (Scope 3) (t-CO2)

Category Scope of calculation (2022) 2022 (2023) 2023 2024 Calculation method
1 Purchased goods and services (648,989) 539,325 (615,992) 501,574 508,715 Calculated by multiplying purchases by per-unit emissions of individual purchases based on the number obtained by multiplying the carbon footprint of products (CFP) data of core products by the number of products. From 2024, for products without CFP data, calculations are based on GHG data from major suppliers.
2 Capital goods (40,853) 27,314 (36,335) 17,799 15,833 Calculated by multiplying the amount of capital goods purchased by the Group by the intensity indicated on the Input-Output Tables of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
3 Fuel- and energy-related activities not included in Scope 1 or 2 (12,363) 7,110 (13,773) 7,509 7,551 Calculated by multiplying the amount of fuel and energy consumed by the Group by the intensity at the time of fuel procurement (resource extraction, production, and delivery). As noted in *3, following the revision to the calculation method of Scope 2, the results for 2022 onward are those after the revision.
4 Upstream transportation and distribution (6,095) 6,095 (7,685) 7,685 6,053 Deliveries to customers are calculated using the fuel consumption method. Deliveries between warehouses are calculated using the ton-kilometer method.
5 Waste generated in operations (1,613) 1,613 (1,631) 1,631 2,603 Calculated by multiplying the Groupʼs total volume of waste, excluding the volume of used Canon products previously recorded under Category 12 “End-of-life treatment of sold products,” by the emissions intensity by type of waste and treatment method.
6 Business travel (7,513) 7,513 (9,075) 9,075 11,544 Calculated by multiplying the amount paid for each mode of transportation during the business trip by per-unit emissions of each mode.
7 Employee commuting (7,132) 7,132 (6,284) 6,284 7,178 Calculated by multiplying the amount paid for each mode of transportation during the commute by the emissions intensity of each mode. In the case of private car commuting, calculated by converting the total mileage to fuel usage and multiplying it by the intensity for fuel combustion.
8 Upstream leased assets (0) 0 (0) 0 0 Encompasses leased buildings and vehicles and included in Scope 1 and Scope 2
9 Downstream transportation and distribution (3,338) 3,338 (2,814) 2,814 2,300 Calculated by determining average transportation distances and weights of distributed products for each region and multiplying it by the intensity of transportation. Storage is calculated by multiplying the average annual inventory volume by energy intensity.
10 Processing of sold products (0) 0 (0) 0 0 Not applicable
11 Use of sold products (106,210) 106,210 (95,443) 95,443 102,515 Calculated by determining the lifetime power consumption for main products and multiplying it by the CO2 emission factor published by The Electric Power Council for a Low Carbon Society.
12 End-of-life treatment of sold products (22,605) 22,605 (22,424) 22,424 26,136 Calculated by multiplying the CFP data of main products by the number of these products. In the case of products for which CFP data is not available, calculated by multiplying the sales ratio.
13 Downstream leased assets (647) 26,838 (1,194) 37,270 41,665 Calculated by determining annual power consumption of leased products and multiplying it by the CO2 emission factor published by The Electric Power Council for a Low Carbon Society. From 2022, electricity consumption by tenant operators in data center housing services has been recorded. As noted in *3, the results for 2022 onward are those after the revision.

Since the digits after the decimal point are rounded off, the simple total value may differ from the corresponding value written in the [Total] row. The calculation method is changed for Cat.1, Cat.2, Cat.3 and Cat.13. For results starting from 2022, those after the change are written. Results determined by the previous calculation method are parenthesized.
  • *2
For Cat. 1 and Cat. 2, the treatment of fixed assets transferred from purchased goods was changed in 2024. The calculation method was changed so that those excluded from Cat.1 in the past will be excluded from Cat.2. For results in and after 2022, those after the change are written.
  • *3
For Scope 2, the calculation of location standards started in 2023.
